Last night I attended a great talk and interactive discussion with Bradley Hope, hosted by Aperio Intelligence and at the same time learned more about the services that Aperio Intelligence can offer to investors.
Investigative journalist, Bradley Hope, is co-author of Blood and Oil about MBS’ rise to power, New York Times bestseller Billion Dollar Whale, about the 1MDB scandal and has a new book out on 1st November titled, The Rebel and the Kingdom: The True Story of the Secret Mission to Overthrow the North Korean Regime.
In November 2017, the nascent de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (MBS), rounded up around 300 Princes, merchant family members and former government officials and turned Riyadh’s Ritz Carlton hotel into what news reports described as a ‘gilded jail’. Commentators on the one hand saw this as an audacious crackdown on corruption and drive to restore ill-gotten wealth to the privy purse and, on the other, a brazen recalibration of the balance of power in the Kingdom and concentration of power in the hands of MBS.
Five years on from these events, Bradley Hope discussed : What drives MBS’s decision making and moves seen as reckless by outside observers ? What is behind his seeming ‘siding’ with Russia over the US in certain recent moves ? Amid accusations of sportswashing and greenwashing, how is MBS trying to rehabilitate his image after the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi ? Where do relations between MBS and UAE ruler Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) stand alongside the competition for foreign investment between their two Gulf states ? What room does US President Joe Biden have to manoeuvre in ‘hitting back’ at Saudi following recent OPEC+ decisions ?
I have just ordered a copy of his book and all his other ones too!
